After Tuesday, isn't it time to redefine loyalty, commitment, and integrity?

It's clear the Republicans have missed the point on Iraq and deserved to lose big this election year. Tuesday's Democratic surge proves that we need to reconsider our committment to that country and heck, let's not stop there. What other rigid loyalties do we stubbornly hold on to despite the difficulties?

For instance, it's true that I authorized the justice-of-the-peace to marry my wife and me, but I didn't know that he was actually going to proceed with it. Due to this deceptive miscalculation, I find myself locked in an expensive and protracted struggle that requires me to come home at night, stick around even during arguments, remember anniversaries, birthdays, and worst of all sacrifice my money on people other than myself.

Also, it was never made clear to me (and apparently many others) that "marriage" would mean an end to seeing other women. It's true this was mentioned, but not discussed in a bi-partisan fashion where alternative viewpoints could emerge. "For better or for worse" is outmoded needs clarification in light of the lies told at the outset of this effort.

Further, while I "sponsored" the act that led to my daughter, I never at any point authorized the many encroachments upon my time and money that being "a father" demand. Now, I learn that I may be on the hook for her education, security, and general welfare until she turns 18! I did not sign up for that when I said, "I do." That's for sure.

It seems that the judge who performed our ceremony rushed headlong into the wedding, but had no plans for our marriage. As such, isn't it time I reconsider my oaths in light of these new developments? Fairness demands it, I believe.

Thank you John Kerry, Nancy Pelosi, Howard Dean, and Harry Reid for helping me to see the light. I owe it to myself to reconsider these things.

You can well imagine liberals' surprise when the crime rate went down as more criminals were put in prison. The New York Times was reduced to running querulous articles with headlines like "Number in Prison Grows Despite Crime Reduction" and "As Crime Rate Drops, the Prison Rate Rises and the Debate Rages."

On public schools: Public schools are forbidden from mentioning religion not because of the Constitution, but because public schools are the Left's madrassas... At least the crazy Muslims get funding from Saudi Arabia for their madrassas. Liberals force normal Americans to pay for their religious schools.

On the media's ignorance of religion: In another interview, [the Rev. Richard John] Neuhaus told a reporter that political corruption had "been around ever since that unfortunate afternoon in the garden." The reporter mulled it over before asking, "What garden was that?" In defense of the American educational system, every single one of these reporters knew how to put on a condom.

On abortion: No matter what else they pretend to care about from time to time - undermining national security, aiding terrorists, oppressing the middle class, freeing violent criminals - the single most important item on the Democrats' agenda is abortion. Indeed, abortion is the one issue the Democratic Party is willing to go to war over - except in the Muslim world, which is jam-packed with prohibitions on abortion, because going to war against a Muslim nation might also serve America's national security objectives.

On liberals' obsession with Fox News: Fox News isn't even particularly conservative, though it is recognizably American. I believe the one verified atrocity committed by Fox News was the wearing of American flag lapel pins after 9/11. Assuming - against all evidence - that Fox News is every bit as conservative as CBS is liberal, it is still just a small beachhead in a universe of liberal-speak. But the mere existence of one solitary network that doesn't toe the party line has driven the Left insane.

On Cindy Sheehan: Call me old-fashioned, but a grief-stricken war mother shouldn't have her own full-time PR flack. After your third profile on Entertainment Tonight, you're not longer a grieving mom; you're a C-list celebrity trolling for a book deal or a reality show. At that point, you're longer mourning, you're "branding."

On public school teachers: We are simultaneously supposed to gasp in awe at teachers' raw dedication and be forced to listen to their incessant caterwauling about how they don't make enough money. Well, which is it? Are they dedicated to teaching or are they in it for the money? After all the carping about how little teachers are paid, if someone enters the teaching profession for the big bucks, aren't they too stupid to be teaching our kids?

On Darwinism: Liberals creation myth is Charles Darwin's theory of evolution, which is about one notch above Scientology in scientific rigor. It's a make-believe story, based on a theory that is a tautology, with no proof in the scientist's laboratory or the fossil record - and that's after 150 years of very determined looking. We wouldn't still be talking about it but for the fact that liberals think evolution disproves God.

On the fossil record: The preposterous conceit that the fossil record has produced a mosaic of organisms consistent with evolution except for the occasional "gap" is absurd. Evolution is nothing but a gap. It's a conjecture about how species might have arisen that is contradicted by the fossil record and by nearly everything we have learned about molecular biology since Darwin's day.

On religion "vs." evolution: The only religious belief driving opinions about evolution is atheism. God can do anything, including evolution. But the value of Darwinism for atheists is that it is the only way they can explain why we are here. (It's an accident!) If evolution doesn't work out for them, they'll have to expand on theories about extraterrestrials or comets bringing life to earth.

On Darwinism and Nazism: Hitler's embrace of Darwinism is not a random fact, unrelated to the reason we know his name. It is impossible to understand Hitler's monstrous views apart from his belief in natural selection applied to races. He believed Darwin's theory of natural selection showed that "science" justified the extermination of the Jews.

On Darwinism's appeal to liberals: Liberals subscribe to Darwinism not because it's "science," which they hate, but out of wishful thinking. Darwinism lets them off the hook morally. Do whatever you feel like doing - screw your secretary, kill Grandma, abort your defective child - Darwin says it will benefit humanity! Nothing is ever wrong as long as you followyourinstincts. Just do it - and let Mother Earth sort out the winners and losers.

WASHINGTON - Citing increased demand, sources within the department responsible for monitoring inventories of overstated emphasis warn of ever dwindling supplies of words misused by many Americans every day.

Department Secretary William Browning appealed for calm today, but made clear that if Americans do not begin to describe people, places, and things with proportionately descriptive rhetoric, mandatory rationing could begin for some words currently on the endangered list.

Browning cited "Nazi", "Liar", "Gulag", "Torture", and "Outrage" as the words most in danger of extinction. "We simply no longer have the luxury of throwing out 'Gulag' anymore to describe confinement conditions not luxurious.

The term 'Nazi' must be reserved to describe followers of Hitler's National Socialist Party -- certainly not your parents or the President. And, an 'outrage' should be in some form or fashion, well, literally outrageous."

Following a Rose Garden reception for South Korean Prime Minister Lee Hae-Chan, President Bush reinforced the Secretary's message:

"History books need these important words to warn future generations of Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot, Hussein, and others who have filled gas chambers and mass graves with the innocent. I urge every American to say what they mean and mean what they say."

Echoing Mr. Bush's comments, Vice-President Cheney added that creative works of fiction could also be affected, "It's worth noting that Pinocchio could not be written today due to the shortage of the word "Liar."

Police on Monday continued searching for clues in the murder of a prominent local family, whose bodies were discovered in their home.

Firefighters responding to a report of a blaze at the house found the bodies of Bryan and Kathryn Harvey and their two young daughters, Stella and Ruby, Sunday afternoon.

Police would not comment on the condition of the bodies, but the Richmond Times-Dispatch, citing police sources, reported the family was discovered bound in the basement with their throats cut.

All four were pronounced dead at the scene, said police spokeswoman Cynthia Price. The bodies were sent to the medical examiner's office for autopsies. Police are investigating the case as a homicide and arson, Price said.

Investigators said the Harveys had invited friends to the house for a New Year's Day chili party. A family friend who arrived with his daughter walked inside and was immediately engulfed in smoke. "I yelled out, and no one answered, so I figured they all must be on a walk or something," Johnny Hott said. He then shouted for a neighbor to call 911.

According to the Times-Dispatch, a family friend said 39-year-old Kathryn Harvey was the half-sister of Steven Culp, who played Rex Van De Kamp on "Desperate Housewives." Bryan Harvey, 49, was a member of the popular local band, NrG Krysys, and was a former guitarist and singer for the critically acclaimed House of Freaks, which released five albums on three labels between 1987 and 1995.

Harvey and his band had played at a local hotel New Year's Eve and returned home at 2 a.m., friends and family said. His 9-year-old daughter Stella spent the night at a friend's house and returned home at 10 a.m. Sunday, where she was greeted at the door by her mother, friends and neighbors said.

Police on Monday were trying to determine when the family was killed and what started the fire. They had not named any suspects and did not know of a possible motive for the crime, Price said.

Investigators were also trying to determine whether anything was stolen from the house. "The detectives are working the case very hard," Price said. "They've been canvassing the neighborhood, talking to associates of the family and trying to find any possible leads."

The crime frightened members of the middle-class neighborhood, which hasn't logged a homicide since 1987, when serial killer Timothy Spencer murdered Dr. Susan Hellams. Spencer, better known as the South Side Strangler, was executed in 1994.

A crisis team was being organized to assist students at the elementary school where Stella was a third-grader, said Daniela Jacobs, principal of Fox Elementary School. "She was a wonderful little girl," Jacobs said of Stella. "She was a happy little girl." Stella's 4-year-old sister, Ruby, was a preschooler at Second Presbyterian Church's child-care center. Her mother was the co-owner of a retro gift shop.

"They were just wonderful people," said Chuck Wrenn, a longtime friend of the family's. "They contributed a great deal to the community. ... I just couldn't imagine what could have happened."

If you lived in the city of Richmond, this couple was hard to miss. Their deaths have sent shock waves through Central Virginia as friends and family members try to make sense of it all. Police are releasing few details as of yet.

I knew them, but not well. Many friends of mine were very close to them and are in a state of shock this week. If you lived in downtown Richmond for any length of time you knew them - or their faces at least.

Bryan was "a pillar of the Richmond music scene," as described by longtime friend Chuck Wrenn. To me, he will always be remembered as the singer for The Dads in the 80's and later on as the critics favorite House of Freaks. I am posting my favorite song of theirs -- "Sun Goes Down" from their Tantilla album.

Kathryn owned World of Mirth in Richmond's Carytown retail district. If you needed a cool toy for your hipster friends or their kids, you went here. Kathryn's interest in campy retro toys and collectibles made this store a Richmond must see.

I pray for their families and for justice to be served. Richmond has lost some of its eclectic character this week.

I emailed her today to let her know that Christians throughout history are no strangers to persecution and that it may surprise her to learn that most Christians I know expect to see violent persecution against them in our lifetimes. After all, from the Pharisees to Nero to Stalin, Christians have been killed and tortured for practicing their faith. Many believers are suffering right now around the world in prisons, makeshift jails, and some are even awaiting execution.

However, mockery and violence have served only to make Christianity stronger throughout the ages. Neither Stalin nor Nietzsche could kill it. Christ foretold this in the book of Matthew saying, "All men will hate you because of me" and again in the book of John, "Do not be surprised my brothers if the world hates you."

Many other passages make clear, that if you believe, you will suffer for it. After all, it's easy to deny you believe in anything that's inconvenient or puts you in danger. Also, belief in nothing makes it impossible for you to be a hypocrite.

Of course, persecution of believers does not start all at once. In hindsight, Kristallnacht was a long time in the making. Incrementally, by degree, the heat and hostilities were turned up until outright brutality against a particular group was not only excused, but demanded by law.

I don't know if the average German citizen after WWI interpreted the mockery of Jewish symbols, the rising anti-Semitism, and the national scapegoating as a sign of unimaginable things to come. However, I'm sure there was the same misplaced sense of righteousness among patriotic National Socialists who partook in it.

The game is definitely afoot. Below are the results of my five minutes of Googling the words "Air America" and "Christian:"

Ironically, being a Christian demands recognizing hypocrisy in yourself. No good Christian will deny this. As humans, we're imperfect in many ways -- hypocrisy is just one of the sins for which we pray for guidance in defeating.

I would urge the Democratic Party as a whole to reconsider its anti-Christian stances and remarks of late. After all, at what point does it run afoul of their long standing commitment to tolerance?

At what point does this mockery become hypocrisy itself?

Our Troops Must Stay
America can't abandon 27 million Iraqis to 10,000 terrorists.

I have just returned from my fourth trip to Iraq in the past 17 months and can report real progress there. More work needs to be done, of course, but the Iraqi people are in reach of a watershed transformation from the primitive, killing tyranny of Saddam to modern, self-governing, self-securing nationhood--unless the great American military that has given them and us this unexpected opportunity is prematurely withdrawn.

Progress is visible and practical. In the Kurdish North, there is continuing security and growing prosperity. The primarily Shiite South remains largely free of terrorism, receives much more electric power and other public services than it did under Saddam, and is experiencing greater economic activity. The Sunni triangle, geographically defined by Baghdad to the east, Tikrit to the north and Ramadi to the west, is where most of the terrorist enemy attacks occur. And yet here, too, there is progress.

There are many more cars on the streets, satellite television dishes on the roofs, and literally millions more cell phones in Iraqi hands than before. All of that says the Iraqi economy is growing. And Sunni candidates are actively campaigning for seats in the National Assembly. People are working their way toward a functioning society and economy in the midst of a very brutal, inhumane, sustained terrorist war against the civilian population and the Iraqi and American military there to protect it.

Stanley "Tookie" Williams and his Forgotten Victims

These are the names of the people Tookie Williams killed in 1979 then mocked as they lay dying. The co-founder of the most bloody gang empire in American history, the Crips, now faces execution on December 13th.

Williams was convicted of murdering four innocent bystanders with a sawed-off shotgun in 1979. There was nothing peaceful or compassionate about the way Alvin Owen, Thsai-Shai Yang, Yen-I Yang and Yee Chen Lin died. Owen was a white teen-age clerk at a 7-11 convenience store, shot twice in the back of the head -- execution-style -- as he lay unarmed on the floor during a hold-up. A witness testified that Williams mocked the gurgling sounds Owen made as he lay dying. "You should have heard the way he sounded when I shot him," the witness quoted Williams.
The Yangs were Taiwanese immigrants who, along with their daughter Yee Chen Lin, were gunned down during a motel robbery two weeks after Owen died. Half of the daughter's face was blown off by the shotgun blasts, former L.A. County Deputy District Attorney Robert Martin told me in an interview this week. Williams called them "Buddhaheads," Martin recounted, and robbed them of petty cash.

I would post his victims' photos, but none exist on-line that I can find. Very little biographical information is available either.

However, search for "Tookie Williams" on Google and you'll get hundreds of sites (mostly Leftist) celebrating this unrepentant murderer [he has never expressed remorse for the killings or apologized to the victims' families] and his efforts to educate young people on gang violence.

Typical treatment from Talk Left:
Stanley (Tookie) Williams was the leader of the Crips in south central LA. He's been on death row for 23 years. While in jail, he became an anti-gang activist, wrote children's books and was nominated by a member of the Swiss Parliament for the Nobel Prize. In 1999, he was visited by Winnie Mandela.

Most sites you find while searching fail even to mention 17-year-old Owen, the Yangs, or their 12-year-old daughter, Chen Lin - all shot and killed by Williams. No celebrities pleading their cases.

Jamie Foxx starred in a film released in 2003 about the gang leader's life entitled Redemption. This biopic screened at Sundance to favorable reviews and Winnie Mandela even makes an appearance in it. Now, Snoop Dog plans to release a new song on Williams' behalf.

Still a Crip: Snoop Dogg at rally to save Williams

Fair enough. Snoop Dogg was once an active Crip gang member. He claims that Tookie helped him understand the cycle of violence that gangs promote and sustain. Has Snoop Dog renounced gang violence and his association with the Crips? Judge for yourself as Snoop explains in the 2003 hit song "P.I.M.P" with onetime drug courier, 50 Cent:

It appears Tookie's lessons have fallen on deaf ears. Snoop's "change of heart" is betrayed by his own words. A truly changed Snoop Dogg might have convinced many observers to reconsider this prisoner's fate.

Ironically, the one who may be betrayed ultimately by Snoop's insincere pleadings and glorification of Crip culture is Williams himself.

This editorial version of the movie Footloose piece of investigative journalism doesn't mention what the Democratic effort is exactly or offer any quotes from Republicans explaining their position on it.

Ms. De La Cruz concludes Republicans "are apparently still miffed a year after the Boss lent his voice to the campaign of Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry."

Democratic sponsors John Corzine and Frank Lautenberg express their befuddlement too stating simply, "even if the Republicans don't like (Springsteen's) tunes, I would hope they appreciated his contributions to American culture."

Please accept my apology, Bruce. It is a shame that some on the political Right may still be sore at you for simply lending your voice (and 44 million) to the Kerry campaign. After all, courageous celebrities like yourself should never have to suffer the indignity of paying a price for your convictions.

"The CIA sources described a list of six "Enhanced Interrogation Techniques" instituted in mid-March 2002 and used, they said, on a dozen top al Qaeda targets incarcerated in isolation at secret locations on military bases in regions from Asia to Eastern Europe. According to the sources, only a handful of CIA interrogators are trained and authorized to use the techniques:

The Attention Grab: The interrogator forcefully grabs the shirt front of the prisoner and shakes him.

Attention Slap: An open-handed slap aimed at causing pain and triggering fear.

The Belly Slap: A hard open-handed slap to the stomach. The aim is to cause pain, but not internal injury. Doctors consulted advised against using a punch, which could cause lasting internal damage.

Long Time Standing: This technique is described as among the most effective. Prisoners are forced to stand, handcuffed and with their feet shackled to an eye bolt in the floor for more than 40 hours. Exhaustion and sleep deprivation are effective in yielding confessions.

Major Media Labels Congressman John Murtha a "War Hawk" Despite his Long History Of Opposition to the Iraq War.

"The network evening news broadcasts tonight all lead with Congressman John Murtha’s call for the immediate removal of American troops from Iraq. Yet, they seemed disinterested in focusing much attention on Rep. Murtha's “denouncement” of the Iraq war more than a year ago.

The reality is that Rep. Murtha first voiced his displeasure with how things were going in Iraq on September 16, 2003, when he called for the immediate firing of President Bush’s defense leadership team. The network news organizations this evening chose not to inform their viewers of this, and, instead, implied that Rep. Murtha’s statements today were recent revelations on his part.

The day after his denouncement, "Murtha went on MSNBC’s Hardball in 2003 to discuss his views on this subject with Chris Matthews. In this interview, not only did Rep. Murtha state that he would have not voted for the war resolution knowing what he knew in September 2003, but, contrary to assertions by many members of Congress of late, as well as much of the media, he saw "all" of the intelligence reports:

DAMASCUS, 23 Oct 2005 - It was Huda Abu Assaly’s wedding day, and the house was full of relatives and well-wishers. But instead of going to her would-be husband's house after taking her vows, Huda died before the festivities were over.

It all started when the 23-year-old Muslim, secretly married a Christian man she had met while studying at Damascus University. When informed of the wedding, Huda’s family – after recovering from the shock – convinced her to return to her hometown of Sweidah, some 100 km south of the capital.

She was forgiven, they told her, and promised a proper wedding ceremony, to be thrown in her home.

On the wedding day, in late August, however, Huda was stabbed and shot to death by her brother for betraying the family’s honour.

Despite the grim circumstances, festivities went on as planned, with the family receiving guests amid joyous ululations as the ambulance carrying Huda's body pushed its way towards the local hospital.

Democrats Demand Second Investigation into Weather Forecasting Failures

"Al Roker clearly stated 7 times prior to Saturday that it would rain. It was beautiful and sunny all weekend and we want answers," demands Senate Minority Leader Reid.

"Do you think it's a coincidence that Roker has ties to the big umbrella industry? I don't think so, nor do the American people.

Clearly this information was manipulated to persuade the public into thinking it was going to be raining in much of the country last weekend," Harry Reid (D-NV) continued.

Moderate, reasonable, and safe Republican John McCain (R-AZ) defended Roker but demanded accountability, "Many weathermen were wrong about last Saturday, but the buck has to stop with the guy atop the weather chain of command, Mr. Roker."

An embattled Roker defended his decision to call for rain, "Fourteen other networks called for rain. I'd still make that call today if the data were in front of me. It would have been careless to ignore those thunderheads."

Former Today Show weatherman, Willard Scott seemed unimpressed with Roker's explanation, "This storm data was manipulated. The American people deserve a weatherman who will tell them the truth about when it's going to rain."

When did the Associated Press become The Onion?

Tom Raum of the AP gets it more wrong, more often than any news item I've read all year with his unintentional satirical piece today, Bush Risks Alienating GOP Over Iraq War - proof positive that Democrats and their media are worried the public will be reminded that their prior vocal support of the war was totally dependent upon its popularity.

By reminding Democrats how aggressively they argued that the President disarm Hussein, Raum editorializes, "the administration has been engaging in a rhetorical high-wire act in its efforts to defend its use of prewar intelligence..." Hmm....risky indeed to point out the hypocrisy of those who demanded action then ran away from when polling indicated a drop in support. Who is at risk exactly?

Raum categorizes the President's use of the Democrats' own words simply as "painting the Democrats as hypocrites." How about a phone call to Senators Durbin, Kerry, Clinton, Byrd, and company instead to ask them why they flipped, waffled, and rolled? It's either incompetence or lying at this point to claim you were misled.

These "attacks", as Raum calls them may backfire. He mentions too that even Donald Rumsfeld has "joined the fray" to distract voters from an un-indicted Karl Rove. This piece was not on the editorial pages. It was the first item of AP's front page.

In other words, "Democrats and the press can call you a liar, but defending yourself is beyond decency." There are very few things worse than war itself, but weakness and betrayal are among them.

Raum tips his hand further when he warns the president he may risk alienating moderate Republicans. Oh no!! Not the moderates! Appease them at any cost, lest they tell Chris Mathews and Don Imus about it. How dare the President resort to alienating the darlings of the MSM - the courageous maverick Republicans?

The moderates need to worry about the Conservative base, Mr. Raum. Otherwise, I would change the name of this site to "Where Have You Gone, Gerald Ford?"

Stay tuned - we're in for some hysterical, girly shrieking from Democrats and their media in response to the President's new defense of him self and the war.

Why exactly? It’s been said that people get upset when you lie about them. However, they become outraged when you tell the truth about them.

It's About Time: The President's Counter-Offensive Continues

"Some of our elected leaders have opposed this war all along. I disagree with them, but I respect their willingness to take a consistent stand. Yet some Democrats who voted to authorize the use of force are now rewriting the past. They are playing politics with this issue and sending mixed signals to our troops and the enemy. That is irresponsible.

Reasonable people can disagree about the conduct of the war – but it is irresponsible for Democrats to now claim that we misled them and the American people. Leaders in my Administration and members of Congress from both parties looked at the same intelligence on Iraq – and reached the conclusion that Saddam Hussein was a threat.

In early 2004, when weapons inspector David Kay testified that he had not found weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, he also testified that, quote, “Iraq was in clear material violation of UN Security Council Resolution 1441. They maintained programs and activities, and they certainly had the intentions at a point to resume their programs. So there was a lot they wanted to hide because it showed what they were doing that was illegal.”

Eight months later, weapons inspector Charles Duelfer issued a report that found, quote, “Saddam Hussein so dominated the Iraqi Regime that its strategic intent was his alone. He wanted to end sanctions while preserving the capability to reconstitute his weapons of mass destruction when sanctions were lifted."

As our troops fight a ruthless enemy determined to destroy our way of life, they deserve to know that their elected leaders who voted to send them to war continue to stand behind them. Our troops deserve to know that this support will remain firm when the going gets tough. And our troops deserve to know that whatever our differences in Washington, our will is strong, our nation is united, and we will settle for nothing less than victory."
