Miers Steps Down: Bush Nominates TV's Matlock

Andy Griffith called "a good Christian friend who will make a great justice" by the President who cited the actor's folksy legal philosophy and undefeated record as "a cantankerous, albeit fictional, defense attorney."

Griffith may or may not be a lawyer. Messages to his Mayberry, NC office went unreturned.

That Matlock fella has a heck of a paper trail, I'll grant you that. But he is too old to have much of an effect on the court. At the very least, the newest justice must be alert enough to rap Stevens with a gavel when he nods off.

If we're gonna elevate a tv hero to the high court, why not MacGyver? Sure, he has no judicial experience, but he is a secret government agent and is therefore probably right of center. Also, he has shown the ability to think well on his feet and he has great problem solving skills. That should help him battle the evil Souter/Ginsburg axis.

And best of all, we'll get a new catch phrase: "What's he doing with that precedent?"
